Dr. Jeffrey Riopelle was born in San Francisco, California.  He attended medical school at UC Irvine, graduating in the top 15% of his class, and did his residency training in Ventura, part of the esteemed UCLA residency system.  Dr Riopelle has practiced cosmetic surgery and cosmetic dermatology in San Ramon since 2001.

Cosmetic surgery is both an art and a science.   The Riopelle family is filled with well-known artistic and creative people including famous French Canadian artist Jean Paul Riopelle, famous singer- song writer Jerry Riopelle, and famous inventor Fleming Riopelle (Dr Riopelle’s grandfather), inventor of the first automobile air conditioner.   Dr Riopelle became a cosmetic surgeon in order to be able to combine his talents in both the arts and the sciences.  For example when doing liposuction he carefully sculpts each individual as if working to create a fine masterpiece.

Dr Riopelle relates well to patients.  He is a great Listener.  He understands patient’s needs and desires and in turn creates the optimal treatments for them.  In fact Dr Riopelle was featured in Barry Lycka’s ground-breaking book Don’t Choose a Cosmetic Surgeon Without Me, in which Dr Lycka noted Dr Riopelle’s exceptional listening skills and patient rapport.

Dr Riopelle is a family man.   Both he and his wife Donna (co-founder of their practice) are active in the community, enjoy sports, and stay physically fit.  They have 4 great children who are all 4.0 students and excel in sports as well.  Dr Riopelle enjoys coaching sports, and in fact has coached all his children in either basketball or baseball over the years.

Dr Riopelle has had a storied medical career.  He was selected to TopDocAmerica for 2 years in succession.  He was elected as a Top Dermatologist in San Ramon by the International Association of Dermatologists 2011.  He has trained with some of the world’s greatest experts in cosmetic surgery, and has himself taught Thermage and other cosmetic surgery techniques to physicians internationally.

He enjoys his role as an innovator staying, ahead of the curve, and he seeks out the most modern and effective technologies.  He was the first doctor on record to combine IPL with Laser Genesis before a major company (Cutera) came out with it all as one unit.  Dr Riopelle was among the first to do fat transfers to the buttocks as part of the Brazilian Butt Lift, among the first in the US to perform the Vampire facelift,  invented the RioLift (the 3 dimensional facial rejuvenation), and was among the first in the US to learn stem cell processing of fat and injection techniques for revitalizing joints.  He is currently working with the Ageless Regenerative Group in Florida on studies to evaluate the effectiveness of stem cells for joint problems, asthma, diabetes and ED.

Dr Riopelle is sought out as a research consultant by such major names as Thermage (Solta), and Zeltiq (Cool Sculpting).  He has been a participant in numerous medical societies including the American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery, the California Society of Cosmetic Surgery, the American College of Phlebology (veins and lymphatics), the American Society of Cosmetic Dermatology and Aesthetic Surgery, and the American Society of Ethical Cosmetic surgeons.

He is well-rounded in Preventive Medicine and Antiaging, as well as cosmetic surgery allowing him to effectively treat the skin from the inside out as well.  Donna Riopelle is board certified in anti-aging and regenerative medicine.

Dr Riopelle has author of a book as well as numerous articles, and has now appeared in over 50 videos, and on television and radio.  He has been featured on the CBS and NBC news multiple times reporting on medical advances, has been featured on the CBS TV show Fabulous U Magazine, and has interviewed on the radio by the famous DJ, Don Blue.  Dr Riopelle was a childhood star of the films Economics in Action, Spanish in Action and the Marshlands.  He is fluent in Spanish as a second language and enjoys using his Spanish with Spanish speaking patients.  He is active as a board member of The Mastermind Group, a group of doctors in the US and Canada whose purpose is advancement of high-quality, cutting-edge, ethical medicine.  Dr Riopelle has also performed numerous free treatments for residents of Shepherd’s Gate, a shelter for battered women and has started an annual Halloween candy buyback program to promote health in children while helping create holiday care packages for the Blue Star Moms for overseas military personal.

Our Philosophy

There are 4 things that distinguish Riopelle Cosmetic and Laser from other practices:

1)      First , we have strived to provide the most up to date technology.  We believe in getting the latest equipment and constantly upgrading to bring you cutting edge technology.  The field is evolving very rapidly and we want patients to have the best options currently available to improve themselves.  For example in the last year alone, we added Smart Lipo to our already excellent Vaser Lipo to create Smart Lipo Ultra.  We Added Luminus CO2 fractional  Active and Total Fx resurfacing.  We add Zerona for non-invasive fat reduction.  We also upgraded to the painless thermage tip.  All told we have more than 20 different lasers and cosmetic technologies to choose from.

2)      That leads us to the second thing that sets us apart.  We customize our care for you.  Because we have so many great cosmetic technology options, and so much experience with them we can customize the care just for you the patient.  No matter what the patient’s age, skin type, body type or size, we have the flexibility in technology to outline just the right plan.  As they say if all you have is a hammer you treat everyone as if they are a nail.  Just the opposite with our practice.  We look at you, the individual, and customize a program based on your uniqueindividual needs.

3)      Our practice specializes primarily in no down-time to minimal downtime cosmetic procedures.   In today’s busy world, patients need and want procedures that they can have on a Thursday of Friday and go back to work on the following Monday.  Most of our procedures fit this bill.  Some of the procedures we perform include  SmartLipo, Vaser Lipo, Smart Lipo Ultra, Fraxel-like CO2 Fx fractional resurfacing, Zerona for non-invasive laser fat removal, Silhouette suture lift, the life- enhancing lift for the face,  thermage, the sutureless thread lift, Titan, laser and sclero vein treatment, EVLT, IPL (photofacial), Plasma Portrait, gentle waves, Botox, fillers, and more.

4)      The forth thing that sets us apart is that our goal is to Wow you.  From our great staff to Donna and me as providers, you’ll be surrounded by warm caring professionals with years of experience.  We believe in going the extra mile for our patients.  We’ll settle for nothing less.  We want you to leave saying “Wow, they work really hard for me and they really do care”, and that’s what we hear from our patients all the time.

What really makes our practice most unique is that we combine cosmetic surgery, cosmetic dermatology and expertise in anti-aging all in one very unique practice.  To us, beauty is just not skin deep.  We prefer to work on the whole individual, because if we’re healthy inside, we’ll be healthy outside and age more slowly outside as well.   While we’ve removed hundreds of skin cancers and thousands of moles, treated hundreds of acne patients, and performed thousands of cosmetic procedures, we also have extensive training in anti-aging and weight loss.  Anti-aging is essentially the optimization of diet, exercise, nutritional intake, and hormones to allow one to age internally and externally as gradually as possible.   We believe that when we combine these techniques with our cosmetic surgery and dermatology approaches, we can help patients to the best possible long term outcomes.  By the same token, we view your experience with us not as a onetime procedure with us, but as an ongoing relationship to help you for many years to come.  To help us with our approach, I personally authored a book,  My Personal Trainer, a comprehensive guide to Fitness and Health.  We also have a full-fledged multi-level weight loss program with a behavioral psychologist and dietician to assist us in helping patients.  Donna Riopelle and I have extensive experience ordering the appropriate nutritional, cardiac, and hormonal tests that can reveal insight to optimizing health.

Besides our broad range of services and expertise, customer service is key. Our staff is highly selected and trained to help make patients comfortable when they come to an appointment and have a procedure.  We describe procedures in detail, outline risks, and answer all questions.  In addition we have a cosmetically appealing office, offer light beverages to all patients, give rides to and from procedures if needed and go the extra mile for patients to help get a good result and a happy patient.

One important customer service priority that most patients may not think about has to do with our locations and my privileges to admit.  We are located on the campus at a major medical center, San Ramon Regional medical center.   I have admitting privileges to take care of patients there if needed.     Our procedures are all office based which reduces the risk of hospital acquired infections, but if a serious complication or emergency were to arise, we are right on the campus to admit and follow the patient right next door- a major safety factor.

Our practice is very unique in that my wife and I work together to take care of patients.  In our practice I do the major cosmetic procedures, many laser procedures, Botox and fillers.   Donna Riopelle is a nurse practioner and  sees and treats patients as well  She does most of the anti- aging workups and also does many laser procedures as well as chemical peels, Botox, and fillers.  Jamie Potts is our  cosmetic coordinator, schedules patients, and handles most phone calls.  Laura Protass and Kelly Scott work the back office.  They both have cosmetology and esthetician credentials as well.  We see patients Monday through Friday and some Saturdays by appointment.

We take pride in creating a strong bond with each patient.  We view patients as being with us for a lifetime, and the majority of our patient visits are by patients who have been with us for some time, often years.  From the first time in our office, patients feel the warmth and sincerity of our providers and staff.  A  patient  who has now been with us for several years said recently “I’ve been to several other offices for sometimes very expensive cosmetic procedures.  After the procedure it was as if they were done with me.  What I like about your office is that you treat me as a whole and continually outline a plan for me to stay looking and feeling my best.”

Another patient told me just last week by phone,  “First I want to say that calling my visit to re-discuss my care and helping me is really great.  I really appreciate the customer service…”

We do not do every possible type of cosmetic procedure.  We specialize in procedures with little or no downtime.  When it comes to more major procedures, we have specialists for each cosmetic procedure that we feel are best at that procedure, and we coordinate the referral to that specialist.  For example we have a plastic or cosmetic surgeon we feel is best at breast implants, another who is best at breast reductions, and another who is best at facelifts and so on.   We work closely with those surgeons and see patients back for all their other cosmetic needs after the cosmetic procedure with the other specialist.

Charitable Organizations Work

At Riopelle Cosmetic Surgery Laser and Surgery Center, Dr. Riopelle and Donna Riopelle believe strongly in giving back to the community. We have done multiple projects to give back to the community. Some of these include the following:

For years we have done pro-bono treatments for the residents of Shepherds Gate, a shelter in Livermore that houses battered women.
We have seen over the years that women who come from abusive households may have low self esteem. In addition to needing housing and food for themselves and their children, they often need a boost in their self-esteem. We feel fortunate that we have been able to contribute to their well-being by providing them with these pro-bona cosmetic treatments.
In addition to cosmetic treatments, we have sponsored several events that have acted as fundraisers for Shepherds Gate over the years.

Do a Good Deed Contest: As a productive member of our community we believe in promoting positive efforts from the youth of our community.
Annually we now sponsor a good deed contest for students of high school age and under. Students write us with good deeds they have performed or are performing. We pick the good deed we feel most exemplifies the spirit of a good deed and award that student a computer or I pad. All students are sent congratulatory letters for their good deeds and an invitation to submit future good deeds the coming year.

Halloween Candy Buyback sponsors candy to go to the troops in Iraq and Afghanistan.
In November, 2009, Riopelle Cosmetic Surgery and Laser Center sponsored a Halloween buy back from local students and schools. All told we collected over 3000 lbs of candy from students, and working with Mothers of the troops, sent the candy as part of Holiday care packages to troops in Iraq and Afghanistan. The remainder of the candy not used for the troops was donated to organizations that distributed it to children from poor countries around the world. We also made cash donations to local schools of over $1800 in exchange for the candy. Please watch the following two videos regarding our work including an NBC news TV clip from Nov. 2009.
